- (OBIT: CRYSTAL FALLS — Donald A. Erickson, 87, of 1506 Highway U.S. 2, Crystal Falls, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility.
He was born May 14, 1914, in Ishpeming, son of the late Elmer and Hilma Erickson. He moved to Waukegan, Ill., at the age of 2, where he grew up and attended school. He would spend the summer months in Commonwealth, Wis., at his aunt’s farm.
Donald worked for six years at the Great Lakes Naval Base as a welder and was then employed for 32 years with the U.S. Steel Co. in Waukegan, until his retirement.
He married the former Rachel Hendrickson and she preceded him in death. He then married the former Winifred “Jean” Kilford Noyes in 1971, and moved to Crystal Falls in 1981.
Donald and his wife, Jean, worked for several years as cooks at the Fortune Lake Lutheran Camp.
He was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Crystal Falls.
Donald was also preceded in death by a brother, Ero Erickson.
He leaves his wife, Winifred “Jean;” two sons, Donald E. Erickson of Park City, Ill., and James Paul Erickson of Iowa City, Iowa; three stepsons, John (Linda) Noyes of Wisconsin, George (Cindy) Noyes of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Patrick Noyes of Madison, Wis.; a sister, Eva Erickson of Iowa City, Iowa; two grandchildren, Michael and Kara; seven stepgrandchildren, Kyle, Chelsey, John, Cheryl, Jean Ann, Christopher, and Julie; four great-grandchildren, Richard, Kate, Sha, and Breann, and several nephews.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Crystal Falls.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Rev. Ray Perry will officiate.
Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Iron County Chapter of the American Cancer Society or to Alzheimer’s Research.
The Langenberg Funeral Home-Iron River Chapel is in charge of arrangements.)
