- He settled in North Brookfield, removing from Ware in 1832, and acted as bookkeeper for the Messrs. Batcheller, shoe manufacturers, for 20 years; became a member of the firm in 1852, retiring in 1860 with a competency. He held many public offices in town and state. He was Town Clerk for 10 years, 1836-1846; was Representative in the General Court, 1850, '51, '52 and '62; State Senator, 1865, '66, '77 and '78; member of the Executive Council, 1867, '68, '69 and '70; Treasurer and Receiver General of the Commonwealth, 1871, 2, 3, 4 and 5, besides many other commissions of great trust and importance in the State, in all of which he acquitted himself with honor.
