Bayview-New York Bay AKA Bayview AKA New York Bay Cemetery

Notes:
Greenville’s Bayview – New York Bay Cemetery began in 1884 as 2 separate cemeteries, partly in response to burial needs of immigrants living in Manhattan. The New York Bay section, part of the 1830s Rural Cemetery Movement, features a landscaped grid system and garden-style burial grounds. The Bay View portion, full of winding paths and picturesque settings, includes a 1902 Romanesque Revival-style granite arch at the Ocean Ave. entrance. There is a panoramic view of the Hudson, including the Statue of Liberty.

A former turnpike, the Bergen Point Plank Road, now Garfield Avenue, runs through the cemetery. The cemetery contains a memorial and plots of several employees of the Cunard Shipping Line. The cemetery contains a section which is an early Jewish burial ground, unique to Hudson County. The primary entrances are located on Ocean Avenue and at the intersection of Garfield and Chapel Avenues.
