Notes |
- Place name meaning, osier brook. The Israelites crossed this brook marking an end to their wilderness wandering and entrance into the Promised Land (Num 21:12; Deut 2:13-14). It is usually identified with modern wadi el-Hesa which flows into the southeast end of the Dead Sea. The wadi is about 35 miles long and forms the boundary between Moab and Edom. The Brook of Zered is the same as the Brook of the Willows (Isa 15:7), the dry stream bed of (2 Kin 3:16). Its entire length is only about thirty-eight miles, but it drains a large area of land. Israel crossed the Zered after wandering in the wilderness for thirty-eight years (Deut 2:13-14).
