- Place name meaning, wandering. After murdering his brother Abel, Cain was condemned to be a fugitive and a wanderer on the earth (Gen 4:12, 14). Nod is located away from the presence of the Lord and east of Eden (Gen 4:16). The text is not so much interested in fixing the physical location of Nod as in emphasizing the lostness of the wanderer Cain.
