Notes |
- Place name meaning, plain or level plain. Place where the king of Sodom met Abraham on the latter’s return from defeating the coalition of kings (Gen 14:17). It is also called the king’s valley or dale. There Absalom raised a monument to himself (2 Sam 18:18). The Genesis Apocryphon locates it in Beth-Hakkerem, which is two and a half miles south of Jerusalem where the Kidron and Hinnom valleys join. It has also been located north, east, and west of Jerusalem.
