- (OBIT: "Ruth H. (McFarland) Hardy, Burdett, 75, formerly of 220 High St. Extension, Lancaster, died Monday in Westford Nursing Home, Westford, MA She leaves her husband, Waldo H. Burdett; two daughters, Wilda Bruso of Lancaster and Elaine Reardon of Templeton, MA; four step-children; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. Her first Husband, Leo E. Hardy, died in 1947. She was born in Island Falls, Maine, daughter of Daniel & Millie (Noyes) McFarland and lived here most of her life. Mrs. Burdett attended South Lancaster Academy. She was a licensed practical nurse and worked at the Perkins School in Lancaster for many years, retiring in1965. She also did work as a private duty nurse. Mrs. Burdett was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Village Church." Aunt "Diffy" cared for the Marvin sisters (spinster daughters of the late Pastor Abijah Marvin, who wrote the "History of Lancaster," published in 1879) and acquired their Main St. house after their deaths; unfortunately, she threw away all the letters, papers and notes remaining in Pastor Marvin's death; she boarded and cared for her ex-sister-in-law's father, Samuel Lombard, for the last two to three years of his life (he died Dec. 1, 1979) and it was during this period that she and Waldo sold the Marvin house and removed to the house at 220 High St. Extension.")
