Notes |
- His father, the Rev. Daniel Nash, was an assistant (and perhaps advance man) for Charles Finney, a famous revivalist-evangelist in the early 1830's. Daniel Nash became a member of the Congregational Church in Hamilton, New York where he was born. In 1831 he may have moved to Orange, New Jersey but is reported to have married Sophia Church in Hamilton about 1834. He was converted to Perfectionism in the late 1830's through the influence of his brother, Seymour Nash, and the writings of John Humphrey Noyes.
He and Sophia had five children, including twins, who were the first children born in the Community.
Daniel Nash is credited with assisting in the conversion of Joseph Ackley and Hial M. Waters, two of the earliest members of a New York State Perfectionist community.
This early community joined hands with the Burts in November 1847, and constituted the tiny Perfectionist community in place at Oneida Reserve when J.H. Noyes was invited to join them. Later, Daniel Nash worked as a salesman out of the Brooklyn Commune, and a fruit preserver and tinsmith at Oneida. He was "only a moderate partaker of the social practices of the Community".
