4/13/06— PONCHATOULA, La. ? Charles Rupert (Charlie the Barber) Bedsole, 84, formerly of Meadville and Rome, Ga., passed on Thursday, April 6, 2006, at North Oaks Medical Center, Ponchatoula, La.
He had recently been taken to his grandson?s home for hospice care.
He was born in Roseboro, N.C., Nov. 29, 1921, a son of Daniel James and Minnie Peterson Bedsole. He married Roberta L. Jones of Haverhill, Mass., Oct. 26, 1945; she preceded him in passing.
He was of the Baptist faith. A proud member of the U.S. Army, he received an honorable discharge after serving in World War II as a corporal for the 65th Fighter Wing Division.
He enjoyed playing the organ and collecting old vinyl records and sheet music.
He was proud of his seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, and made a memorable impression on anyone who met him. Many in the Meadville area will remember him as Charlie the Barber for his affiliation with Andre's Barber Shop. He will be remembered and missed by many.
There will be no calling hours.
Services are private and at the convenience of the family.
Burial will be in the National Cemetery, Baltimore, Md., where he will rest with his son, Lt. Charles Aurthur Bedsole; and his beloved wife, Roberta Lilian Bedsole.
Arrangements are under the direction of Byham-Miller-Mizner Funeral Home Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville.
