- (OBIT: Dr. Allen P. Noyes Dies – Length Illness Fatal to Noted Specialist.
Native of Astoria Well Known in Medical Circles Here; Maternity Work Outstanding.
Dr. Allen Pendleton Noyes, 40, for many years an outstanding specialist in medicine in Portland, died at Good Samaritan hospital yesterday from an illness which had lasted over a period of 21 months. Funeral services under the direction of Finley & Son will be held either Friday or Saturday. The definite time has not yet been set by his family.
After his early years of practice at the Lying-In and Red Cross hospitals in New York city, following his graduation from the University of Oregon medical school, Dr. Noyes returned to Portland to become associated with Dr. E. J. Laabe in maternity surgery. He was a specialist in gynecology and obstetrics, service in that position on the staff of the Portland Maternity hospital and as lecturer on those subjects at the University of Oregon medical school, with which he was associated.
Dr. Noys was born in Astoria, Or., March 24, 1889, and came to Portland with his parents when three years old. He attended public schools here, and on graduating from the University of Oregon medical school went east to study.
Philanthropic work with the Salvation Army took much of his time. He was active in the Portland City and County Medical association, Portland Academy of Medicine and Society of Gynecology and Obstetrics, Alpha Kappa Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha, medical fraternities, and Multnomah club.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Gretta Butterfield Noyes, and a son, Peter, 7, at the family home, 291 Culpepper terrace; a sister, Mrs. Sadie Bennett of Hood River, and a brother, Major E. A. Noyes, on the staff of Letterman hospital in San Francisco.
