- He was prominent in Falmouth; town treasurer; many times selectman and representative, holding the latter office through the Revolution. Served as a Captain, Commissary and Sea Coast Officer.
His son Jacob was appointed administrator [Eastern Herald of Dec. 17, 1795]. Joseph's heirs deeded two-eighths of his father's homestead [Cumberland deeds 40:124], which is now owned (1948) and occupied, through inheritance from the Deerings, by another Noyes, a descendant of this Joseph and of the Deerings.

Captain of a company stationed at Falmouth, Cumberland Co., for defence of seacoast; engaged July 1, 1775; service to Dec. 31, 1775, 6 mos. 15 days; also, Council warrant dated April 14, 1777, for 1,000 pounds, drawn in favor of said Noyes, Captain, for the use of Daniel Ilsley, Muster Master for Cumberland Co., to enable him to pay the men who enlisted into the Continental service the bounty allowed by the State; also, list of members of committees appointed to raise men for New York and Canada showing commissions delivered them [year not given]; said Noyes, Captain, reported as belonging to committee for Cumberland Co.
