Notes |
- In 1833 he joined the Methodist Church. He became interested in the doctrine of holiness through the revivals of 1834, and the agency of Jarvis Rider, William H. Cook, and a paper by Boyle and Noyes and became a Perfectionist in December, 1834. Marcus Worden married Mary Catherine Cook at the age of 25 in 1839, and with her had three children; Harriet Maria (1840), Susan L. (1844) and Cornelia J. (1847).
His wife died in 1848 and shortly thereafter Marcus joined the Community where he had a Community child, Charlotte Thayer Worden, with Lucy Ann Thayer.
On joining the Community, Marcus married Sophia Converse (Dunn) in 1849.
After leaving the Community, he married a third time, Anna Maria who returned to Kenwood after Marcus died.
Marcus, his second wife Sophia, and the Bakers left Oneida on October 1, 1851, to resurrect the Putney Association which they did successfully. "A gentle soul, his even temper and goodwill toward all men disarmed the hostility of (the Putney villagers)" He was originally a farmer but when he left the Community in 1870 he became a grocer in Vineland, New Jersey where he was visited by his grandchildren. His daughters stayed in the Community and his many descendants have been very active in the present organization.
