      Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon Gustaf Adolph Lutheran church of New Sweden for Chester Paul Spooner, who died December 22nd at a Caribou hospital following a brief illness. He was 63. Born in Woodland August 25, 1909, he was the son of Emery and Gertrude Jewitt Spooner.

      He was a member of Gustaf Adolph Lutheran Church of New Sweden and had served on the Church council for several years. He was an honorary council member at the time of his death.

      Mr. Spooner had served as a member of the New Sweden School board and was bus driver and janitor for seven years. He was assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 180, a past member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows of Caribou. He had been an active member of the Masonic Lodge No. 170 and of Garfield Chapter, RAM, of Caribou.

      He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Beda Larson Spooner of New Sweden; one son, Wendell of New Sweden; two daughters, Mrs Floyd (Bernice) Dickinson of Caribou and Mrs Carl A (Lois ) Anderson of New Sweden; two brothers, Raymond of Pittsfield and Cecil of Bucksport, and nine grandchildren.

      Masonic memorial services were conducted by the Caribou Lodge at the Morgan Funeral Home in Caribou Saturday evening. The Tuesday services were conducted by Rev. Paul Gleichman, pastor of Gustaf Adolph Lutheran Church. Honorary pallbearers were Henry Anderson, Axel Lindgren, Hampy Johnson, Richard Rasmussen, Bertil Johnson, David Esplling, Evald Anderson, Gilbert Johnson. Active bearers were Peter Spooner, Douglas Larson, Elden Larson, Wendell Johnson, Clifton Anderson and Andrew Anderson. Spring burial will be in the New Sweden Cemetery.)
