Robert E. Noyes, 87, a long time resident of Saddle River, died on March 24.
He was born on June 22, 1925 to Clarence and Edith Ladomus Noyes. He was a graduate of Pearl River High School in Rockland County, N.Y. at the age of 16. He graduated with a degree in chemical engineering after only three years at Northwestern University in 1944. He was a World War II veteran and was an Ensign in the Navy from 1943 to 1946, serving in the Pacific and helped relocate refugees in the Philippines. He was in the U.S. Naval Reserve from 1946 to 1954. He owned a publishing company, the Noyes Data Corporation, from 1962 until 1997. The company was located on Mill Pond in Park Ridge and specialized in publishing technical books for the chemical industry. He traveled the world, wrote books, collected fine art and antiques, opened an art gallery in Manhattan, taught himself French and Greek, became a naval historian, piloted gliders and was a sailor, piloting his classic wooden motorboat, "The Becky I and II," respectively. He was a former member of the Indian Harbor Yacht Club in Greenwich, Conn., the Chatham Yacht Club in Massachusetts and the New York Yacht Club. He was a summer resident of North Chatham, Mass. for many years and sailed with his family on Pleasant Bay.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, the former Mariel Jones; his children, Keith Noyes of Blauvelt, N.Y., Steven Noyes of Sterling, Mass., Mark Noyes of Dunedin, Fla., Geoffrey Noyes of Munich, Germany, Rebecca Tower of San Francisco, Calif., Robert Noyes of Boulder, Colo., Carolyn Cryan of Tarrytown, N.Y. and Tara Cryan Dougherty of Bronxville, N.Y.; his 12 grandchildren; his brother, Edward Noyes of Leesburg, Fla.; and Debbie Urciuoli, a source of support and friendship in recent years. He was predeceased by his siblings, Marilyn Voll and Keith Noyes.

- Robert grew up and went to school in Pearl River. He was in the Navy during WWII (1 Jul 1943 to 17 Aug 1946, Lt. Jr. Grade). He graduated from Northwestern University (1944), BS, Chemical Engineering. He was in the US Naval Reserve (1946 to 23 May 1954, LtJG). Robert is a book publisher in Park Ridge NJ.
