    • Raymond H. "Butch" Barnes, 48, beloved husband of Mary (Grass) Barnes, died Jan. 26, 1990 at Cary Medical Center in Caribou after a long illness.

      He was born in Caribou, Aug. 4, 1941, the son of Raymond H. and Dorothy (Morgan) Barnes Sr. He attended Caribou schools, graduating from Caribou High School in 1959. He was a graduate of Unity College, Class of 1979, and the University of Southern Maine, Class of 1985. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1963 to 1966. Since 1971, he had served in the National Guard with the Headquarters Battalion 152nd Field Artillery. His rank was sergeant first class. He has been employed by Potato Service Corp. and the Caribou City Highway Department. For the last 10 years, he had been a heavy equipment maintenance and operations instructor for the Caribou High School Vocational Training Department. He was a communicant of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

      He is survived by his father and wife, both of Caribou; one son, Mark Barnes of Caribou; one daughter, Tamara Barnes of Caribou; one brother and sister-in-law, Gregg and Brigida Barnes of Portland; one sister, Mrs. Dennis (Lucinda) Bosley of Washburn; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

      A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Jan. 29, at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, with the Rev. Rene Mathieu, pastor, officiating. Military committal services were conducted by members of Headquarters Battalion, 152nd Field Artillery.

      Interment will be at the Holy Rosary Cemetery, Caribou.
