- (OBIT: Clinton Aaron Noyes “Tuffy”, 94 of Ellensburg, Washington went to be with the Lord December 8, 2014. Clint was born in Gaston, OR on December 28, 1919 to Alena and Aaron Noyes. The family moved to Grass Valley, OR to farm until the depression and then moved to Ellensburg to farm in the Wilson creek area. Clint’s first job was on the Bar 14 ranch. He met the love of his life and the mother of his five children (Violet Oakland) whom he married on July 12, 1942.
Clint was schooled in Ellensburg, and then went on to join the CCs’ where he took up boxing for recreation from the hard work of the CC camps. He then joined the navy & became a cook along with continuing his boxing where he earned the Golden Glove in his weight division. He was proud of his military service on the USS Walter C. Wann during WWII. After the navy, Violet and he bought a restaurant in Shelton, Washington. Later, they moved to Ellensburg to raise their family.
Dad was a hardworking man. He worked for the Ellensburg School District, Twin City Foods, and retired from Central Washington University in maintenance. All the while, he had a small dairy and some beef cattle. As if this wasn’t enough, Mom bought rental houses & apartments for Dad and us kids to care for. Clint was a member of the First Lutheran Church, serving as Deacon, usher, and board member. He was also active in the grounds maintenance. He loved working at the Olmstead place & serving meals on wheels. As a member of American Legion, he enjoyed the social life including dancing and the dinners.
Few knew that Dad was a skilled yodeler, he even had the opportunity to record with Boxcar Willie in Bronson MO. He also enjoyed playing pool at the senior center which is where he met Ann Aiuppa from Chicago who was staying with her son Dr. Lundy at the Bar 14 Ranch. Later, they each moved to Dry Creek Assisted living. A wonderful relationship flourished where they spent many years on cruises, local events, and trips to Seattle.
Dad was fond of horses and loved the Ellensburg rodeo, especially the parade, which he was in many times. His last parade appearance was in 2011, driving his 1890’s Studebaker Doctor’s buggy with his son & grandson, earning a first place blue ribbon.
He is survived by 4 children: Bruce Noyes (Cindy) of Yakima, Cynthia Luedeman (Doug) of Bonney Lake, Steven Noyes (Janet) of Ellensburg and Sandra Reetz (David) of Federal Way along with 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Clint was very proud that he got to see most of his grandchildren graduate from college. He is also survived by his sister Maxine Hoff of Ellensburg and Bernice Begalka of Bellingham.
Clint was preceded in death by his first wife Violet (Oakland), Gary Noyes, son, LaVerne (Seward) 2nd wife and Ann Aiuppa (loving companion), also, 4 brothers and 1 sister.
A graveside military service was held at the IOOF cemetery followed by a celebration of life at the Ellensburg Presbyterian Church. Memorials can be made in Clinton’s name to either First Lutheran Church of Ellensburg or Ellensburg Presbyterian Church in care of Brookside Funeral Home 101 E. 2nd Ave. Ellensburg, WA. 98926.)
