    • (OBIT: GEORGETOWN — Joseph "Joe" Harrison Graf, 88, of Georgetown died Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009 at Anna Jacques Hospital.

      Joseph was born in Georgetown and raised in Rowley and Winchester. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army as a mechanic working on machine guns used aboard B-52 bombers. He was the youngest of nine children.

      On March 20, 1948 Joe married Carol Noyes. He and Carol built their own home and have lived in Georgetown since 1948.

      Joseph was self employed owning Mechanical Drives Inc for more than 30 years. Mechanical Drives sold new and reconditioned industrial power transmission equipment. After the war, Joe took up flying owning first a Champ and later a Seabee. In retirement he took up painting. He painted landscapes, flowers and family members. Also during his retirement he and Carol took several cruises including a three month around the world cruise.

      He is survived by his wife Carol (Noyes) Graf of Georgetown. Joe and Carol adopted two children Daniel Graf married to Rachel Tucker Graf and Shirley Graf married to Donald St. James. He is also survived by his grandchildren Dennis Graf, Jocelyn St. James and Justin St. James, great grandchildren Jared and Audrey Graf. Joe was predeceased by his grandson Michael Graf.

      ARRANGEMENTS: A graveside service will take place in Highland Cemetery in Newburyport at a later date in September. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Merton E.
