    Notes
    • Some confusion exists as to whether Ross Ford's middle name was William or Coon. It is suspected that he was born Ross Foord (maybe Ross William Foord, but this is debatable--most of the Foords did not use middle names), and changed his name to Ross Coon Ford because there was a Ross W. Foord contemporary with him, possibly a cousin, that caused confusion of identity on records. Although this may have solved their immediate problem, it certainly didn't help later genealogists. To make matters worse, there was a "Ross Coon", a resident of Fairfax, probably a close family friend, who signed two of Seth Foord's petitions for Land Grants; namely: for a Gore between Enosburgh and Montgomery, dated Fairfax Oct. 9, 1797, and a Grant of unlocated lads in Franklin and Orleans Cos., 1801. Could Ross Ford have named himself Ross "Coon" Ford after his friend? (Seems like this would not do much to make things less confusing.)

Mae Belle Ford (his granddaughter) had managed to prove her descent from Seth Foord through "Ross Coon Ford" at least to the satisfaction of the DAR.

Just when Ross arrived in Newbury is uncertain. He was a "Plattsburg Volunteer" in the War of 1812. They were members of the Methodist Church in Newsbury, Ross Coon Ford being class leader nearly fifty years. He was a farmer; his farm was located at So. (?) Newbury. He died while on a visit to his son in Barnet, Vt., May 5, 1874.
