- (OBIT: BOWDOINHAM — Pelham Peasley Noyes, 82, of Ridge Road, died Friday, Aug. 12, 2005, at the Hawthorne House in Freeport.
He was born in Kossuth Plantation in Maine, May 21, 1923, a son of Pelham P. and Delvine Severance Noyes.
On Aug. 16, 1940, he married Ida Pelletier. They were longtime residents of Bowdoinham.
During World War II, he served in the Army 101st Airborn and received four Purple Hearts for injuries during his military career, a Bronze Star as well as numerous campaign ribbons and medals for his service in the European theater. He was interviewed by author Mark Bando in 1999 for a book about 101st Airborne in Normandy.
He worked for Maine Central Railroad as an equipment operator for 31 years.
He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Maine Antique Power Association and was a lifemember of the Knights of Pythias Bowdoinham Lodge.
Survivors include his wife of Bowdoinham; four sons, Patrick S. Noyes of Las Vegas, Nev., Charles A. and Earnest P.E. Noyes, both of Bowdoinham and Thomas W. Noyes of Brunswick; three daughters, Sharon A. Kemp of Auburn, Catherine J. Wing and Sandra St. Jean, both of Brunswick; two brothers, Ivan and Carleton Keith, both of Kingman; a sister, Jenny Filtz of Bangor; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A committal service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Maine Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta.
Memorial donations may be made to the Togus Veterans Administration Medical Center, c/o Directors Office, 1 VA Center, Augusta, ME 04330.
Arrangements are by Stetson's Funeral Home, 12 Federal St., Brunswick.
