    • Benj. entered Eastern Claims in his father's name for 100 acres at Capisic (part of the Munjoy purchase) and for a house and 2 acres 1/4 m. from the fort, where he had lived.

      Settled in Falmouth on his father's lands and was innkeeper and prominent citizen.

      Benjamin Ingersoll returned to Falmouth in 1726 from Gloucester where his father then resided; took possession of his father's grants and became an active and useful inhabitant. He was a selectman of Falmouth in 1727.

      In 1739 the large square bounded by Fore, Middle, and Exchange Streets and extending about twelve rods west of Exchange Street, containing four acres, with a dwelling house and barn upon it, was sold by Benjamin Ingersoll to Phineas Jones for four hundred and fifty pounds. It is now one of the most valuable spots in town. The house was built by Benj. Ingersoll who kept tavern in it in 1728, probably the first public house in town after the resettlement. It was for many years the best house on the "Neck."

      After the sale of this property he removed to North Yarmouth where he died. Mr. Robt. Johnson married his widow, Mrs. Sarah J. Ingersoll, Sept. 18, 1755.

      Benjamin Ingersoll's name is on the muster roll of Capt. Joshua Moody's Company from June 1 to Nov. 22, 1725. (N. E. Gen. and Hist. Reg., 49:189.) He was known as Ensign Benjamin Ingersoll.
