- (OBIT: Caribou - Ruth M. Getchell, 92, passed away May 9, 2020, in Caribou. She was born in North Adams, MA, on November 29, 1927, the daughter of the late Albert F. and Dorthey M. (Morrison) Norris.
In June of 1946, she married Russell C. Getchell Jr., and he predeceased her in 1984. Ruth was a cook at Caribou Middle School for 28 years and was a volunteer at Cary Medical Center. Mrs. Getchell was a longtime faithful member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, where she was active in the Daughters of Isabella, and the Golden Age groups. She was also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and was in a knitting club.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary C. Gagnon of Caribou; a son, David N. Getchell of Upper Kent, NB, Canada; a son-in-law, Mark Barthelemy of Fort Kent; 7 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two children, Cathie Barthelemy and Russell "Chipper" Getchell, sisters, Janice M. Norris, and Dorothy N. Graham, a brother-in-law, Robert Graham, and a son-in-law, Russell Gagnon.
Private family services will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery, Caribou. Arrangements by Mockler Funeral Home, Caribou.
