- (OBIT: - Washburn - Evard A. Drake, 95, died June 16, 1994 at his residence after a brief illness.
He was born in Caribou, May 7, 1899, the son of Allen and Lillian (Iott) Drake. Mr. Drake was a self-employed farmer and potato grower in the Washburn area for many years. He served with the U.S. Army during World War I and was a member of the Oscar Dow Post 48 American Legion, Washburn and attended the First Baptist Church of Washburn.
He is survived by five sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Pauline Drake of Washburn, Wilber and Georgianna Drake of Orem, Utah, Allen and Phyllis Drake of New London, Conn., Rodney and Charlene Drake of Masardis, Melvin and Janet Drake of Presque Isle; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Marie Foote of Dundee, Fla., Lillian and Vernal Curtis of Bangor, Betty and Albert Berglind of Ocala, Fla., Helen and Fred Tompkins of Wade; two brothers, David Drake of Worchester, Mass., and Vaughn Drake of Alton; five sisters, Edith Stevens of Lewiston, Susan Hanscomb of Springhill, Fla., Myra Whiteneck of Caribou, Annie Brown of Levant, and Virginia Wray of Lewiston; 30 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 72 years, Irene (Madore) Drake in 1992; and by a son-in-law, Oden Foote.
Funeral services were held June 18, in the chapel of the Mockler Funeral Home, Caribou, with the Rev. Orris J. Orr officiating. Pallbearers were Donald Tompkins, Ronald Curtis, Parker Drake, Galen Forsman, Howard Drake, Andrew Turner, Robert Finn and Michael Berglind. Military honors were conducted by officers and members of Lister Knowlton VFW Post 9389 of Caribou.
Interment was at Riverside Extension Cemetery, Washburn. Friends who wish to contribute in memory of Mr. Drake may do so through the Visiting Nurses of Aroostook.)
