      The Hillsboro Journal, Friday, July 28, 1905, p. 1 s2.

"H.A. Noyes was born in Orange County, Vermont, April 27th, 1840; died at his home in this city Thursday, July 20, 1905; aged 65 years, 2 months and 23 days.

Early in life he was converted and united with the Baptist church at Towbridge, Vermont.

When the war broke out, his youthful heart was filled with patriotic emotions and he crossed over into New Hampshire and joined the first regiment that out from New England April 19, 1861 five days after the surrender of Ft. Sumpter.

When his term expired in August he enlisted in Co. D, 12th Vermont Inf. and served till after the battle of Gettysburg when he was discharged July 14, 1863.

On the 27th of April, 1869, he married Miss Mary C. Sovers who survives him. There were fourteen children eight of whom survive to comfort their mother in her loneliness: Charles A. of Irving; Ada M. Jayne of Nokomis; Mary E. Bolen of Neoga; Ann H. Clark of Chicago; Frank W. and Louis of this city; Warren T. of Vandalia and Bessie E. Deffy of New Baden.

Mr. Noyes was in poor health for a number of years and each year he spent a few months at the Soldiers home at Quincy. Early this year he felt that his days on earth were few and he came home to die. His sufferings were intense but he was patient and resigned and when about two o'clock Thursday afternoon he heard the call of the roll from the beyond he responded and took his place in the ranks ready for the grand review.

The funeral conducted by Rev. D.H. Toomey was held from the home at four o'clock Friday afternoon."
