- (I went to Burbage, England in 1977 and looked at the original records trying to find out more about the Hope Noyes issue. What I concluded is that Sarah Tarrant was legally married to a man named Thomas Philip Hope. Their marriage record is in Burbage records stating he was from Folkstone, Kent, England. No other place is Thomas Philip Hope mentioned and he apparently left Sarah Tarrant shortly after their marriage. Since there was no possibility for divorce in Sarah's day, all of the children for Sarah Tarrant Hope are listed as baseborn with the father's name of Noyes, hence they were known as Hope Noyes, Noyes Hope, Hope or Noyes on different records (census, christening, death, etc.).
