Notes |
- Cornelius was a crippled child and when he was 14, his father, James, sold his home on Moose Hill and moved the family to Dead River Plantation. They moved during cold weather and, as they traveled, the children were covered in blankets to keep them warm. They stopped at noon and at night for rest and shelter. As they started out on the morning of 14 March 1837 all was well, but when they stopped at noon, little Cornelius was dead. His journey was ended and in a better land than that of Dead River. Of course he must have been buried there on the trail. The family remained in Dead River Plantation for three years, when they returned to Moose Hill and bought a farm in their former neighborhood.
