- After living in Wahpeton, North Dakota and Alexandria, Minnesota they started farming in 1942 in Otter Tail County, Minnesota. They continued to farm until 1978 when they sold the farm and built a new retirement home in the country south of Battle Lake, Minnesota. Before her marriage, Bernice worked as a secretary. After they started farming she became active in her church, PTA and as a 4-H leader. In 1984 she became a resident of a nursing home suffering with Alzheimers Disease.
