He moved from Potton to Bangor, Franklin Co., NY in 1846 with his family when he was young. He grew up in Bangor. He shows up in the 1850 and 1860 US census with his family here. He married Louisa and moved to a farm on Wescott Rd. in NE Bangor (Dist. #15). Louisa's grandparents (in NW Malone), uncle Ira Brown and aunt Sarah Wescott also lived on this road. There were many hop yards located in this area. Almon is listed here in the 1870 US census as a laborer with a personal estate valued at $150. His first two children were born here in Franklin County. In the winter of 1870-71 Almon and Louisa moved to Fitch Bay, Stanstead Co., Quebec. Louisa's parents and siblings moved to Fitch Bay at the same time. They all show up in the Canadian census in the spring of 1871. Almon and Louisa were members of the Congregational church. They rented a farm on range 4, lot #25. James and Sarah Gollher lived here in 1861. The farm had 63 acres, 60% cropland and 40% pasture. The farm produced wheat (12 bushels), barley (8 bushels), oats (30 bushels), peas (8 bushels), beans (1 bushel), buckwheat (20 bushels), corn (30 bushels), potatoes (75 bushels), hay (400 lbs.), clover (1\2 bushel) and hops (400 lbs.). Wheat, barley, peas, buckwheat, corn, hay and hops produced above average yields. Hops were 12 times above average for the area. Almon had a horse, 4 cows, 2 steer, 2 sheep, a pig and produced 250 lbs. of butter. The family lived in Fitch Bay for 12 years. Five more children were born here. Almon shows up in the 1881 Canadian census as a farmer. The family moved back to the US in 1883. They lived in Newport, Orleans Co., VT near lake Memphremagog. They were members of the First Congregational Church of Newport in 1884. Son Willie died here in 1886 at age 7. Louisa (1891 at age 44) and son Carlos (1893 at age 10) died here also. Almon married second 14 Mar 1893 Mary A. Balduke in Bristol, VT. Mary was born in 1862 in New Haven, VT to W.A. Balduke and Addie Thompson (after Mary's father died, the mother, Addie, married B.F. Hathaway (a physician) and lived (1880) with Mary in Milton VT. Addie died soon after. Dr. Hathaway then married Anne Butler in 1883 and then moved to Vandenburg, IN). Almon was working as a watchman in Newport at the time of his second marriage. Almon and Mary had 3 children, born in Vermont. Almon's occupation in 1896 was repairing cars (in Newport). Mary died on 31 Mar 1907. Almon married third 25 Sep 1907 Fanny (Steer) Potter in Newport. Fanny was born on 23 Nov 1856 in England to Edward Steer and Hannah Sherlock. She was living in Montreal PQ before the marriage. She was a widow with 3 children and had been married to a Mr. Potter. Newport was an important rail center between Montreal and Boston at this time. Almon was working for the railroad in 1907 and in 1910. Almon and Fanny show up in the 1910 US census in Newport with Almon's children Woodburn, Arthur and Effie on 41 Second St. near Coventry Rd.. Sometime between 1910 and 1913 the family moved to Boston MA. Almon is found in the city directories there between 1913 and 1920. Almon and Fanny first lived on 1466 Washington St. in the South End section of Boston (in 1913). The next year they moved to 890 1\2 Harrison Ave.. Almon lived here until 1919. He worked as an elevatorman (1913-1915) and as a clerk on 75 Pitts St. (1916-1919). Sons Woodburn and Arthur worked as clerks at the same address (1919-1921). Fanny died while living at the Harrison Ave. address on 23 May 1915. During the 1920 US census Almon was living with stepchildren Charles and Mary (Potter) Bilton and their children on 309 Main St. in the Charlestown section of Boston. He was unemployed. He died at this address in 1925 of arterial sclerosis and senility at age 80 after a 9 month illness.
