    • (OBIT: Hazel Smith, 96, of Billings, passed away on June 11, 2005, at St. Vincent Healthcare. Hazel was born on Nov. 26, 1908, at the family homestead in Erwin, S.D. The home was later remodeled by a young couple and is presently a prosperous farm.

Hazel grew up in South Dakota and, following high school, she went on to Nettleton College in Sioux Falls. She later married Noel Smith and together they moved to California, where she lived up until the last five years, upon which she moved to Billings.

She was a member of the Gold Star Mothers. She loved to camp and fish with her husband, friends and family, and enjoyed tending to her yard and flowers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Emma and Charles Noyes; her husband, Noel; sons, Bernard, who was killed in the service; and Dennis; sisters, Mae and Creet; and brothers, Erwin and Jason.

Survivors include her daughter, Beverly Smith; son, Leonard (Mary Ann) Smith of California; daughter-in-law, Ellen; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 15, at St. Thomas the Apostle Church. Rite of Committal will be held at a later date at Calvary Cemetery in Los Angeles.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Vincent DePaul or the Billings Animal Shelter.

The family would like to thank Dee and the staff at Ginny Wanner's Assisted Living for their care the past few months. Also, to Dr. Maheras and the staff at St. Vincent's for their excellent care.

Michelotti-Sawyers is in charge of arrangements.)
