    • ("DIED. In Carver March 3d 1868, of Typhoid Fever, Melville Noyes aged 24 years. We were surprised and greatly grieved to hear of our young friends death. He enlisted, and was a companion with us, in the United States service, and continued therein a brave and good soldier until sickness rendered it necessary for his discharge. On his recovery he immediately re-enlisted and continued in the service of the Government until the close of the war. After the war he engaged in business in the oil region in Penn. he closed up his business there a few weeks since, and started for home, he was taken sick while on his journey and it was with difficulty he reach his mothers family, he did however, but the cold hand of death had clasped him for a victim, and in ten days he passed to the eternal world.

Melville was a young man of uncommon promise, strictly honest courteous, a favorite of all who knew him, possessed all the characteristics of a true christian. His death will fall heavily upon his widowed mother, his brothers and sisters, and all his associates." [The Valley Herald [Chaska, Minnesota], March 7, 1868. p. 1.]
