OBIT: The death of George O. Noyes, which took place from his late home, 25 Water street, Wednesday morning, removed from this vicinity one in the prime of life who had endeared himself to a large host of friends and whose loss they will deeply feel and whose memory will be always cherished. Throughout his social and military life his character was of a strong and sterling nature. He was loyal to his friends of home surroundings and loyal to his country when his services were needed at the breaking out of the Spanish-American war. He enlisted with Co. C, First regiment, U.S.V. on April 22, 1898, and the regiment going to Cuba was stationed at the post near Pinar del Rio. He took part in all the engagements of his regiment, being present at the surrender of Santiago, July 14, 1898. He remained in the service untilApril 17, 1899, when he received an honorable discharge and returned home.

He re-enlisted with Co. E, 26th regiment, on August 2, 1899, and served over two years in the Philippine Islands, enjoying the distinction of participating in many engagements as corporal of his company. He was with Gen. Hughes' column of invasion of Sapao Panay from Nov. 9 to 30, 1899; with the expedition to Negros island Dec. 1, 1899 to Jan. 26, 1900; engagement on Sapao river Jan. 27, 1900; engagement at Polao Panay June 28, 1900; skirmish south of Dumangan Panay June 29, 1900; engagement at Zanazo road, Panay, June 30, 1900; skirmish on the island of Sapao Panay July 1, 1900.

His discharge papers from both enlistments are rated by his superior officers as being most honest and faithful in the surface to his country.

He was born at Newburyport on May 16, 1867, but has resided in this city the greater part of his life, being employed as a furniture handler until the dread disease, consumption, obliged him to stop work, which was several months ago. The best of medical aid was given him, but finally his once stong constitution was baffled and the end came peacefully. A widow survives him.

The funeral services were conducted at 2 o'clock this afternoon at the home of Mrs. Fred O. Wright, 8 Welcome street. Rev. Isaac W. Hanson of the Pentecostal church officiating in the presence of a large gathering of sorrowing friends. The floral tributes were many and beautiful. The bearers were members of the Spanish War Veterans, of which he was a member. Interment was at Linwood cemetery.)
