    Notes
    • He was an officer on one of the Morgan Shipping Company ships. Late January 1909 his ship, the John N Colby, was towing an ocean going barge when a hauser broke injuring several men, including the Captain. His injuries were believed to be not serious but he did, in fact, sustain severe internal injuries and he died that night in Philadelphia. His son, Thomas Wheeler Ryley traveled to Philadelphia to bring his body back to Mystic for burial (Info from New London Day dated 01/27/1909). He and his wife had three children: Thomas Wheeler Ryley, Fannie Ryley & Lucy Jane Ryley.
