Notes |
- David and Anna joined the Rochester church 22 Sept. 1754 and had their daughter Dolly baptized there (NHGR, 4[1907]:74), as were their other children (6[1909]:74-5, 114-8).
With his brothers Jonathan, Samuel and Solomon he signed a petition 30 Aug. 1785 for Rochester's representation in the General Assembly (NHSP, 13:336).
His father deeded him 18 Mar. 1762 lot 69 in Rochester's first division, the property he was already living on and farming (NHPD, 68:29). On 6 Oct. that year he sold this lot to James Place (78:370), and the same day bought Lt. Ebenezer Chamberlain's home lot (69:34; 70:136-8), part of which he sold to Abner Dam 9 Feb. 1785 (StrCD, 6:203). David Latain of the Gore bought 100 acres, part of lot 2, first range, in the Gore from proprietor Theodore Atkinson 30 Nov. 1768 (NHPD, 102:387). He sold part of this latter 25 June 1772 to Nathaniel Buzzell, on condition that within a year Buzzell build and occupy a dwelling on it, and within three years have three acres cleared for mowing or planting (103:283-4). )n 20 Sept. 1777, he sold to "my loving son Jacob" a 60-acre tract, lot 48 in the second division (StrCD, 5:446).
David served as ensign under Capt. Daniel McDuffee, Col. Stephen Evan's Rgt., 8 Sept. to 15 Dec. 1777, marching against the British at Saratoga (NHSP, 15:297), and was the recruiting officer for Capt. David Place's Co. (TRs 293). In 1780, 1784 and 1788 he was town surveyor (McDuffee, Rochester, 594-7, 606-11).
David bought land from Abner Dam 9 Feb. 1785, sold part of his home lot in the second division to Ephraim Perkins 8 July 1785, and bought a 240-acre lot from Samuel and John Clements the same day (StrCD, 6:203; 5:40; 6:265). This Clements property he sold to his son William 18 March 1789 (19:68), and part of his lot 48 to his son Ephraim 18 Feb. 1796 (22:98).
David and Anna were listed in the 1790 Rochester census with a male under 16, another 16 or older, and a daughter; he was on the tax list of the second parish there in 1795.
In 1800, when David was 70, he and Anna joined his son William in settling at Harmony, ME, making the two-week journey by ox-cart, driving their livestock with them (George T. Little, Genealogical and Family History of the State of Maine [NY, 1909] 4:2056-8). Harmony, first settled in 1796 as Vaughntown, was incorporated in 1803. David bought lot 6, 9th range, from Abel Gould 27 Sept. 1806 (KenCD, 11:449).
