- (OBIT: From the Osborne County Farmer, Osborne City, Kansas, Thursday, January 22, 1976, pg 10:
LaVern Claire Noyes was born January 19, 1901, on a farm South of Osborne, Kansas, to Elmer E. and Hattie A. Noyes. He passed away quietly in his sleep in the early morning of January 12, 1976, at his home in Osborne.
He attended grade school at the Happy Hollow rural school and high school in Osborne, graduating in 1922. He attended college at Fort Hays Kansas State where he chose the career of a teacher. He taught in the rural schools and later in Portis and Osborne for 15 years.
Coming from a very devoted Christian family, Vern gave his life to the Lord at an early age, and lived his Christianity day by day. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Osborne, and a member of the Masonic Lodge.
On July 12, 1926, he was united in marriage to Junia V. Holcomb. To this union were born two sons, one dying at birth.
After giving up teaching, he started a custom combining business, and for the next 20 years every summer found him in the fields building loving memories and happy hours. The rest of the year he worked in his real estate and insurance business. Upon retirement, he still spent many days with his son and grandsons, and so enjoyed attending their school activities and seeing their accomplishments.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Elmer and Hattie Noyes; an infant son; one sister, Lola; two brothers, Merle (sic) and Doyle.
Left to mourn are his dearly beloved wife Junia; son Loren and wife Eva, two grandsons, Larry Noyes and Brad Noyes, one brother, Cliff Noyes at Winfield; two sisters, Mrs. Bill (Bernice) Copes, North Hollywood, California, and Mrs. Dean (Doris) Lynn, Donna, Texas; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Doyle (Alice) Noyes, Newton; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 14 at 2:00 p.m., in the United Methodist Church, Osborne, the Reverend Richard Near officiating. Mrs. Bryan Byrd, organist, accompanied Mrs. Ralph Holland, Mrs. Keith Adams and Mrs. Lowell Guyer who sang "Just a Closer Walk With Thee" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus." Casket bearers were Neil Truman Rice, Arvid McFarland, Calvin Stansberry and O.C. McFadden. Interment was in the Osborne Cemetery.)
