    • (OBIT: Ezra Spooner, a member of the G.A.R., died July 2. He was a hero of Gettysburg. There are but two surviving Gettysburg heroes left in this town, A.J. Lewis and Otis Reynolds.

      OBIT: W.E. Spooner died at his home July 2. He was born in Dennisville, Me., May 4, 1845 the son of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Spooner, of that village. When Mr. Spooner was 9 years of age, his parents moved to Hodgon.

      In 1862 Mr. Spooner enlisted and served 3 years in the War between the States. He was one of the few living in this town in later years who fought at the battle of Gettysburg and his death occured on the 56th anniversary of that famous battle.

      Mr. Spooner married Miss Annie Wilcox of Hodgdon. They spent many years of happy married life, raising a family of 7 boys and 3 girls, 5 of the children are still living (1919); 2 girls, Mrs. Jerry Smith and Mrs. Winfield Lincoln, and 3 sons, Sabin O., Silas H. and Emery O. Spooner of this town. Mr. Spooner was the grandfather of 29 children and 7 great-grand-children.

      Since moving to Caribou in 1879, Mr. Spooner has made a good citizen and gained many friends. He was an active and helpful member of the Orange Lodge and the Black Knights. He has also lived a true Christian life, both he and his wife having joined the Baptist church in 1897.)
