    Notes
    • Aaron and Betsy/Elizabeth lived in Tunbridge, VT. Many of Aaron's siblings intermarried with the King family of Sutton, NH. Betsy King was a second cousin of his mother Betsy Ladd. Aaron first shows up on Tunbridge deeds on 5 Dec 1801 when he bought 50 acres on lot #149 from his father. Aaron's home lot was #140, on the East Hill. He bought land on this lot on a number of occasions: 10 acres from Benjamin B. Harriman on 20 Sep 1803 for $250; 3 tracts from John Field on 31 Oct 1805 for $60; 15 acres from John Field on 24 Oct 1807 for $100 and; 24 acres from Noah Roberts on 5 Apr 1810 for $150. He traded land on this lot with George Weymouth on 4 Apr 1812. The Congregational Church in Tunbridge was organized in 1792 and the Baptist Church was organized in 1799. Aaron's brother-in-law Nathaniel King was ordained Baptist minister in 1802 and held the post until 1816. The church was located on the East Hill and had as many as 200 members. There was much competition and controversy between these two churches in early Tunbridge history. Aaron died fairly early at the age of 36. Spotted fever killed many people in Vermont in 1813 but it is not known if he died of this. Two of his children, Heman and Ira, seem to have been named after Ethan Allen's brothers. A deed dated 19 Feb 1813 (3 days after his death) transfers land on lot #118 to brother John. Aaron's estate was probated on 12 Mar 1813. The estate was appraised by Samuel Austin, Elias Curtis and Daniel Folsom. Wife Elizabeth was the administrator. Aaron was heavily in debt when he died (total $932.13). Among the people he owed money to were John Noyes ($19.41), Amos Noyes ($18.23), True W. Noyes ($59.87), George King ($48.96), Jessie King ($2.17) and Nathaniel King ($123.59). Elizabeth had to sell off the estate to pay the debts. She sold the land on the north and south sides of the highway to daughter Laura's future husband Aaron Noyes 2nd (son of Nathan and cousin of Aaron jr.) in 1813 for $700.Some of this land was returned to Elizabeth in 1816 and some went to Aaron Noyes 2nd's brother James Noyes. Elizabeth sold all of the remainder of her land, including the widow's third to James Noyes in 1818 and 1819. In Oct 1818 a special act of the Vermont Legislature enabled her to sell her widow's third. Elizabeth was having trouble selling the estate. The probate judge extended the time and ordered that ads be placed in the Vermont Journal. The estate had been conditionally settled on 15 Jun 1815. An inventory had been taken. It showed that Aaron had a 2 story house and a farm valued at $1200. He also had a share in the local library. He grew wheat, corn, hay, flax and produced cider. Some of the animals he owned included sheep, horses, oxen, hogs, fish and bees. Other items he owned were: a goat coat, cloths, bedding, furniture, a loom, a tin case, kitchen utensils, barber tools, a looking glass, saddles, tools, a plow, a wagon and a sleigh. Aaron was referred to as Aaron Noyes jr. as opposed to Aaron Noyes 2nd, his cousin and daughter's husband. Aaron and Elizabeth are buried in the East Hill Cemetery in Tunbridge.
