- (OBIT: John M. Noyes Sr., 87
GRAY -- John M. Noyes Sr., 87, of Gray, died Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Portland on Feb. 25, 1922, at the home of his parents Earle W. Noyes Sr. and Helen M. Sabine. He worked at his father's moving company, Earle W. Noyes & Sons, until he retired in 1984. During WWII, he worked in the South Portland Shipyards building Liberty ships.
His interests included hunting, fishing (especially brook trout), boxing, and antique automobiles and motorcycles. As a young man he had a Harley Davidson and an Indian and as he aged he never lost his love or interest in motorcycles and cars.
Surviving are his son, John M. Noyes Jr. of Gray, a daughter, Kimberly A. Noyes of Gray, and a daughter, Kathleen Caiazzo of Portland. He was predeceased by his sister Ruth Spaulding. He is also survived by his sister, Dorothy Pallotta of Portland, his brother Earle Noyes Jr. and wife Shirley of Cumberland, his brother Howard Noyes of Windham, his brother Lester Noyes and wife Tina of Falmouth; three grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Visitation and a funeral service will be held on Thursday, Feb. 4, at First Lutheran Church, 132 Auburn St., Portland. Visitation will be at 12 p.m., with the funeral service following at 1 p.m. A private burial service will be held in the spring at Pine Grove Cemetery, Falmouth. Arrangements are by Dolby Funeral Chapels, Windham.
The family would like to express our heartfelt thanks for the wonderful care John received from his primary doctor Gary Green, MD, of Portland, the nurses, doctors and staff at Mercy Hospital and most recently the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House for their loving kindness, compassion and their exceptional care and support.
