- (OBIT: CARIBOU - Byron A. Harmon, 81, passed away Nov. 22, 2007, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Jan. 4, 1926, in Caribou, the son of Arthur and Sarah (Kelley) Harmon. Byron grew up in Caribou and served his country in World War II as a U.S. Marine. He owned and operated his own plumbing and heating business for many years, and often did free work for churches from Caribou to Massachusetts. Byron was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed collecting guns and hunting. He also enjoyed going to garage sales and was known to look for a good deal. Byron was a member of the Paralyzed Veterans', National Rifle Association and a former Odd Fellow. His faith in God was an integral part of his life. Byron was a past member of First Baptist Church, New Sweden, where he served as a deacon, a charter member of New Life Baptist Church, Presque Isle and a current member of High Street Baptist Church, Limestone. He had received appreciation awards from First Baptist Church, New Sweden and New Life Baptist for his extra time and effort. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and his family was his first priority. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Cecile (Cyr) Harmon; a son, the Rev. Thomas Harmon and his wife, Claudette, of Webster, Mass.; two daughters, Kay Martin and her husband, Mike, of Hermon Denise Hacker and her husband, the Rev. David, of San Antonio; daughter-in-law, Colleen Harmon of Caribou; 11 grandchildren, Barry Martin and his wife, Wendy, of Orrington, Chris Harmon and his wife, Diane, of East Putnam, Conn., Tammy Tozer and her husband, Jason, of Hermon, Shawn Harmon and his wife, Melissa, of East Putnam, Conn., Billy Hacker and his wife, Priscilla, of San Antonio, Brady Hacker and his wife, Vanessa, of Saginaw, Texas, Scott Harmon of Caribou, Aaron Harmon and his wife, Rebecca, of Lynch-burg, Va., Stacie Auvi and her husband, Jeremy, of Middle-town Ohio, David Harmon of Caribou and Sherrie Harmon of Ashland; 24 great-grand-children; nieces and nephews; and special friends, Judson Drake and his wife, Donna. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two sons, Arthur and Michael; four brothers, Morris, Fred, Floyd and Willis; a granddaughter, Kelly Holmquist; and a great-grandson, Trevor Holmquist. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25, at Lancaster-Morgan Funeral Home, 11 Clover St., Caribou. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Revs. Charlie Campbell and Thomas Harmon officiating. After the service there will be luncheon in the gathering room at the funeral home. A private interment will take place at the Northern Maine Veterans' Cemetery, Caribou, at a later date.
