    Notes
    • Personal name meaning, servile. The 11th judge of Israel from the town of Pirathon in the tribe of Ephraim. He had a large family and personal wealth (Judg 12:13-15). He had forty sons and thirty grandsons who rode on seventy donkeys; and he judged Israel eight years. Three of the so-called “minor” judges, Ibzan, Elon and Abdon, judged Israel in succession for 7, 10 and 8 years respectively. As they are not said to have delivered the nation from any calamity or oppression, it is perhaps to be understood that the whole period was a time of rest and tranquillity.
