Notes |
- Mass. and Maine Families says this Sarah Noyes was not a daughter of Josiah and Mary (Lunt) Noyes of Portland. [The daughter of Josiah and Mary was a first cousin of Moses and was incorrectly assumed in both the Lunt Genealogy and Noyes Genealogy to have married Moses. However, the age of the death of the Sarah who married Moses indicates she was born the same year as a sibling of that Sarah and Mr. Davis realized the fallacy of such an assumption. The key to determining the identity of Sarah, the wife of Moses, was found in an old newspaper article which related that Ann Cobb, the wife of Ebenezer Cobb, d Portland abt May 1791 ae 79y and left 10 children by her former husband Mr. Noyes (Young's Newspapers, p.114, citing Gazette of Maine, issue of 27 May 1791). Ebenezer Cobb and Anna Noyes m Falmouth 29 Sep 1767 (Cum Co Marriage Returns, p.9). A scrutiny of the Newbury MA VR revealed from Anne's approximate birth date that she was singularly Anne Stickney who m Newbury 16 May 1732 Nehemiah Noyes and further revealed that Nehemiah d Newbury 8 Jul 1764. Nehemiah and Anne had a dau Sarah whose birth date corresponded exactly with the birth date calculated from Sarah's age at death.] (Provided by Clayton R. Adams, Brunswick, ME.)
