    Notes
    • He is credited with service in the Revolution from Concord, in Capt. Joseph Hosmer's company, Col. Eleaser Brooks' Regiment.

The Noyes family arrived in Salisbury, Vermont in 1794, in the person of Daniel Noyes who, along with his wife Millicent Gibbs and their six children, migrated from Sudbury, Massachusetts. Two more sons were added to the family in Salisbury. Daniel, who was born in Sudbury in 1749, served in the Revolutionary War in Captain Joseph Hosmer’s Company, Col. Eleaser Brook’s Regiment. (The Noyes Genealogy, Vol. II, page 53) Millicent Gibbs was a direct descendant of William White and Susanna(h) Fuller, who arrived on the Mayflower. I-Ic was a signer of the Mayflower Compact.) On 19 October 1795, Daniel purchased 110 acres of land in Salisbury from John Sutherland of Wallingford, Vermont for the sum of 100 pounds. (Salisbury Town Records, Page 125, Book 1) The property was, “Bounded as follows, beginning at a beach tree which is the Northwest corner, then one hundred and ten rods to a stake marker, then due East one hundred seventy rods to a small hemlock sapling marked "JS”, then a straight line to the place begun at.” The property was located on what is now Shard Villa Road in West Salisbury, the second piece of property south of the Middlebury town line. (The first property south of the line, known as the Pierce place, was purchased by a descendant, George Noyes, in 1922 and added to the farm.) At some time the property passed to Daniel’s son William, who was known as Billie. Probate records of this time period were destroyed by fire. We do know that, in 1858, Billie’s oldest son John sold, “All the real and person estate of Bille (sic) Noyes, my father, and all the real estate of Sarah Noyes, my mother,” to his brother, William Hubbel Noyes. It subsequently passed to William’s oldest son, George Weeks Noyes. He was married to Carrie Beach a direct descendent of John and Priscilla Alden of the Mayflower. The property eventually was passed on to his children, including Ruth Adelle Noyes. The property passed out of the family in the 1950’s. [Ralph L. Noyes, Alexandria, VA.]
