    • (OBIT: Hugh Noyes Passes Away

      Hugh Noyes, for the past 64 years a well known and high esteemed citizen of Mishawaka or vicity, died at 5:45 o"clock Tuesday morning at the family home, 129 Towle avenue, aged 74 years. He had been in failing health for some weeks.

      Mr. Noyes was born in Dearborn county, Indiana, October 23, 1837. He came to this locality in 1847 with his parents from near Rising Sun, Indiana. The trp was made overland in a prairie schooner of the early days. In relating the story of this trip Mr. Noyes had stated that not a single railroad was crossed in the entire distance. The family first located in the Van Buskirk settlement, south of town.

      Mr. Noyes was married in this city in 1859 to Miss Ellen Chandler, who survives him. He leaves two children, Fred Noyes and Mrs. Ira C. Boles, both residents of Mishawaka. Besides his wife and children there survives one half brother, Allen Tibetts of Bay City, Michigan, and two half sisters, Mrs. John Cook of Elkhart county, and Mrs. William Miller of St. Joseph county. There are four grandchildren and one great grandchild.

      The funeral was held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o"clock. Rev. W.B. Freeland officiating.)
