      Joseph Addison Noyes' unit was originally the Wisconsin 10th Light Artillery Battery which transferred most of its personnel (including Noyes) to the 8th Light Artillery Battery. The 8th was attached to Col. Hans C. Heg's 3rd Brigade. This Wisconsin Brigade was part of the 15th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry (The Scandinavian Regiment). Colonel Heg was mortally wounded 19 Sep 1863, soon after Joseph's first letter was written, and died the following day. The 15th Wisconsin was part of the 1st Division, 20th Army Corps, Army of the Cumberland. http://www.15thwisconsin.net/
