    Notes
    • Thomas and Mary (Brown) had children born in New Orleans, La., and Newbury.

Thomas Noyes was born and lived most of his life in Newbury, Massachusetts. He was the son of Follansby Noyes and Rebecca Noyes. His parents were first cousins who were both descended from James Noyes 1608-1656, one of the founders of Newbury. According to some records he was the owner of the original James Noyes House, but I cannot confirm this. He was a Shoe Manufacturer according to census records but I have been unable to find out whether he Owned a factory or managed one.

In 1855 he and his wife Mary Brown Noyes moved to Newport, Florida to live with his only surviving child, Alonzo B. Noyes and Jane Cowan [Hall] Noyes and their children. He had lost two daughters, Caroline and Elvira to typhoid in different years and two other sons, Thomas and Augustus, who had died as children. His grandchildren had visited him Newbury prior to the move. They are listed in the 1855 Massachusetts Census.

He was know as the "old General" to friends and family.

He died in 1861 in Newport. Although there are no gravestones or burial records, he must have been buried in the Newport Cemetery since that is where the family lived.  [Margaret Noyes]
