    • Hannah and family moved from Bangor to Orono 1790. They built the first frame house in town. The home was succeeded in its ownership by their son Retire Whittemore Freese, whose home it was for more than 50 yrs. It was on the right bank of the Penobscot river directly opposite the University of Maine. Hannah Whittemore married Abraham Freese 6/25/1777. Hannah was the daughter of Edmund Whittemore of Salem MA.

      Note - Hannah had a twin sister Abigail Whittemore who married William Colburn one of the first settlers of Orono.
