In 1849 he came to the United States with his parents, and on a farm in Raymond township, Racine county, he grew to manhood. He remained at home until he attained mature years, and then began the study of veterinary surgery with his father, with whom he practiced some years, and he has always made it his principal business. At one time he had a farm of 121 acres in the township, but he sold off 100 acres of it, and for forty-five years has devoted himself steadily to his calling, in which he has been very successful.

To this union came one son and four daughters: George A., Edith A., who married Newton S. Wait of Racine, and died twelves years after marriage; Jennie Louise and Margaret, both deceased, and one that died in infancy.
